The most important thing to bear in mind is that when you’re working with a mix, you’re dealing with a multitude of complex and interconnected phase relationships. EQ that kick drum and you are changing its phase relationship to other sounds appearing in the mix. Hopefully it’s not audible (or at least still sounds good), but it is there.

I have to believe that what my dog finds most relaxing in terms of calming his anxiety is not necessarily music that he has never heard before, but the sounds that he’s used to hearing when things are all well and good inside the home and he’s getting bum scratches and dental chew treats.
“I set myself such problems as: What can I do with a single note? with its octave? with an interval? with two intervals?” He also added that “certain features of these problems and their solutions have something in common with the principles of serial composition.”
We look at Ligeti’s famous composition in order to decide how much, or how little, the use of music’s foundational parameters really matter in composing.
