Hood rappers 2019

The video for “In the 1970’s” (above) is brilliant. Have you always felt free to incorporate humor into your work? I’m impressed when people have the courage not to take themselves too seriously.

The Arctic Monkeys’ video is highly engaging and memorable. The song is about a one-night stand, and while the video portrays the same concept, it’s framed in a new, creative way. The whole video involves one camera and two actors, and proves that an inexpensive music video can be a success with a truly well-considered, compelling story.

Dead J is one of the most innovative and prolific electronic musicians making music in China. His music is dancy, crunchy, sonically diverse, and all-together banging. He was originally inspired to make electronic music because he felt that rock music had stagnated. “One of the charming things about electronic music is its individualism,” according to Dead J, “just like when an artist creates a painting by themselves. So the possibilities for electronic musicians are huge.”  I highly recommend his new album, Ting Tai Le Ge.

Brown proved he was a different type of entertainer with this album. Although he isn’t doing anything new, yet, the way he directed the band and interacted with the audience felt revolutionary. He took what other band leaders were doing and upped the ante, upped the energy, and all-around raised the bar to set a new normal for how flamboyant and confident an entertainer should be. His exuberance can be heard throughout the performance.

Since the housing bubble burst in 2008, banks are skittish about lending money to nontraditional earners like songwriters, here’s how you can beat them.

Chantel De Lava’s soft synths and laid-bare vocals breathe new life into R&B-infused synthpop. Despite heavy use of electronics, the mix never loses warmth or depth of emotion, leaving room for more open sections and gorgeous vocal runs. Stay late for ZEMA, an electropop singer/producer who writes infectious tunes that will get your hips shakin’ of their own accord.

For a descending perfect fourth, look no further than the traditional “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad,” as the lyrics “I’ve” and “been” at 0:00 feature this interval.

One of them that’s common in electronic and instrumental music is the development of a single idea over time. It’s also common in dance music, ambient music, and minimal music, and tends to work well with slowly developing sounds or textures. This kind of technique of form is also common in reggae, in certain kinds of West African music, and in East Indian classical music, among others — all musics that attempt to evoke transcendental states and trances while exploring a particular mood or emotional space, and utilize melody and rhythm to drive the song forward.

Perhaps the most popular song form in modern music, the Verse-Prechorus-Chorus is also very versatile and strong. It features the inclusion of a prechorus, a bridge between your verse and your chorus that ties the two sections together with a central idea or melody, or a way to flip your chord progression around so the chorus makes sense starting on a new chord.

It’s called Modern Pop Vocal Production, and it’s designed to help you home-recording vocalists and producers get a richer, more dynamic, and harder-hitting sound on your vocal mixes. In other words: Want to sound like the hits on the radio sound without buying a $10K vintage microphone? Then take this course.
